Motor vehicle collision

PETAWAWA - The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is continuing to investigate a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Hwy 17 just east of Chalk River in the Town of Laurentian Hills. 

The collision was reported at approximately 8:20 a.m. on the 14th of February 2014.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a westbound passenger vehicle collided with an eastbound transport truck. 

There were five people in the passenger vehicle. 

The driver of the passenger vehicle, 23-year-old Meghna Atwal of Kanata was pronounced dead at scene. 

A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old William Eddy-Duma of St. Joseph Township, Ontario was also pronounced dead at the scene. 

The three other passengers were transported to hospital, one with serious injuries. 

The driver of the transport was not injured, and did not have any passengers.

P/C Tom Kobylecki is the investigating officer with the assistance of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. 

Highway 17 has been reopened to traffic.

The investigation is continuing.
