As the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic ebbs, The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation (SSMADC) is still feeling the impact of travel restrictions on its operations.
The development corporation is reporting that a total of 1,616 passengers came through the airport in May 2021. While this is an increase from the 69 reported in May 2020, it is a significant decrease from the 17,364 reported at pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Drastic reductions in flight options at the Sault Airport continue as Bearskin Airlines offers up to two flights Sunday and up to four daily flights Monday to Friday, and Air Canada Express is offering one flight daily.
Porter Airlines has again pushed back its restart date for passenger flights to July 20.
