As the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic ebbs, The Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corporation (SSMADC) is still feeling the impact of travel restrictions on its operations.

The development corporation is reporting that a total of 1,616 passengers came through the airport in May 2021. While this is an increase from the 69 reported in May 2020, it is a significant decrease from the 17,364 reported at pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

The breakdown for passenger movement for March, April, and May of 2019, 2020 and 2021 is as follows:

Porter Airlines has again pushed back its restart date for passenger flights to July 20.
