Santa and his helpers are returning to Station Mall in December.
Jonathan Fuselli, marketing co-ordinator at the mall, confirmed that Ol’ St. Nick will be taking his seat in the usual spot at the mall surrounded by his elves.
Last year, his presence was experienced digitally.
Given the circumstances, it was a necessary move, but most will admit it’s no substitute for the real thing.
Whether children can hop on Santa’s lap will depend on direction from the Algoma Health Unit, but Santa will be there for interaction and photos even if there’s safe distancing involved, said Fuselli.
Christmas spirit is also taking hold of the mall through an early toy drive.
A vehicle on loan from Great Lakes Honda is being stuffed with new toys which will be donated to Christmas Cheer.
New toys are a safer option because they haven’t been handled as much as food items. The van will be emptied on Nov. 1, but the mall will still have locations for Christmas donations.
