Saddam Hussein has been taken to hospital this Sunday morning.

The former Iraqi president has been on a hunger strike for 17 days.

Prosecutors reportedly visited him in hospital and determined that his medical condition was unstable because of effects from the hunger strike.

He is now being fed through a tube, the Associated Press is reporting.

Earlier this morning, the Reuters news agency quoted Hussein's chief defence lawyer as saying that Saddam's entire defence team will be boycotting his trial when it resumes tomorrow.

His lawyers argue that he's being denied a fair trial.

Reuters also quoted a U.S. military spokeperson as saying that Hussein is healthy enough to return to the courtroom tomorrow.
