More support may be developing for Mayor Rowswell's Russian delegation.

The Mayor told us today that he's aware of at least two more groups or individuals who are actively engaged in raising money for the trip by a five-person delegation to whom City Council refused $7,000 in assistance earlier this week.

Rowswell said others have been dropping off small cheques to his office, or offering to host the delegation at meals in their homes.

As SooToday.com reported yesterday, Vic Fremlin at Lock City Dairies has donated $2,500 toward the cost of hosting the group from Krasnoyarsk, Russia during the upcoming Winter Cities Forum.

Also yesterday, an unidentified person offered a 15-passenger van to transport the delegation during its nine-day stay, a donation worth about $1,500, Rowswell said.

And Manual Barros, president of Steel Speed Inc., offered to host a meal to be hosted by the mayor on Monday, February 3 at an estimated cost of $300 to $500.
