I admire the passion, focus, and commitment of our local city council on issues that are important to our community. Good paying, sustainable jobs are essential to unlocking Sault Ste. Marie’s potential and the lack of jobs has been the most significant issue plaguing our community for decades.

As elected officials at all levels, I believe we all must do everything we can to make our city a better place to live, work, play, access care, and raise a family.

It is important to me that all members of our municipal council understand a very basic and simple fact: as your MPP you do not need to pass a resolution to contact me.

I believe we work best when we work together.

On the matter of OLG and jobs, I commend council’s efforts and I will always fight in the interests of the city I love. I tend to agree with the Mayor that this is not purely a political decision nor should it be, however; let’s not forget it was Kathleen Wynne who held OLG jobs hostage in a desperate move during the Sault Ste. Marie by-election.

That was wrong when she did it and it would be wrong for me to politicize this issue now. We need to focus on delivering solutions for our community not scoring cheap political points.

I will fight for those people currently working at OLG in Sault Ste. Marie and I will fight to have ALL jobs in OLG come to Sault Ste. Marie. However, I am not limiting our potential to OLG jobs only.

I will fight, as I have been for these past ten months as your MPP, to bring as many jobs, in as many sectors, as I possibly can bring to our City. Jobs is the biggest issue our City has been struggling with for over 30 years.

Creating good paying, sustainable jobs is the answer to a question you and I have been asking ourselves for a very long time; how do we improve our lives here in Sault Ste. Marie? How do we improve our demographics of an aging population? How do we stop the cycle of exporting our youth? How do we achieve meaningful change?

Jobs is the answer and I will not stop fighting for those jobs until I am confident that my children and yours don’t have to ask those questions any longer.
