People looking for a quick slice of pizza downtown this week may have been surprised to find that a local pizza landmark has been permanently shuttered.

Mrs. B’s Pizza on East Street officially closed its doors June 4.

“I felt it was time to move all operations under one roof again, just easier to manage, more consistent,” said owner Chris Soltys.

It’s been 28 years since Soltys - who worked for the original owner Aurora Butkovich for about a year - acquired Mrs. B’s Pizza.

He says that placing all of his resources into the Great Northern Road location, which has been in operation for six and-a-half years now, makes sense given the changing times.

“It’s probably 30 years that Mrs. B’s has been in that spot,” Soltys said. “It was a tough decision, but the way the city has moved, and the traffic flow has moved up Great Northern Road and heading up north of where I am, it made better sense to have everything up here.”

Soltys is now pondering a possible expansion of the Mrs. B’s menu to include dinner specials like pasta and meatballs or chicken dinners, even if it’s just a couple times a week.

With a larger location to work with - complete with more working space and storage - Soltys says the expansion of his menu is now possible after closing the doors to the East Street location.

“It’s something that I’ve been thinking about, and to do it out of one location and not have it at both locations, I felt that it probably wasn’t a good idea,” he said.
