Over 70 cyclists came out to raise money for mental health on Sunday.

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) held their third annual Ride Don't Hide charity bike ride event.

The local goal was $10,000 and they achieved that, said CMHA mental health educator Lisa Carricato.

The event was part of a CMHA national fundraising campaign that includes over 30 other locations across Canada.

"We want people to know its important to promote mental health," said Carricato.

"Funds raised through the ride will go towards providing much needed mental health services and special activities for individuals living with mental illness and to promote mental health awareness in Sault Ste. Marie," states the event's website.

Carricato said the event also promotes mental health through exercise and is part of the CMHA's goal to reduce stigma.

This year's ride had 5km and 25km bike routes. Next year, organizers intend to create a trip to St. Joseph Island.
