Rider dead as motorcycle, truck collide

ELLIOT LAKE – On Aug. 23, 2016 shortly after 5:30 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and pick-up truck on Highway 108, south of the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation revealed that a motorcycle was southbound on Highway 108, crossed the centre line, entered the northbound lane and collided with a northbound pick-up truck, then came to rest in the northbound lane ditch. 

The driver of the motorcycle Shirley Radke, 63 years of age from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The passenger did not sustain any injuries.

OPP were assisted by Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Elliot Lake and the Township of the North Shore Fire Departments.

The investigation is continuing.
