Reports of the Jan. 25 demise of Giovanni's Restaurant are exaggerated

The Instagram screen capture that's circulating here is actually from a restaurant in Edgewood, Maryland

All of you who've been forwarding that Instagram post about the looming closure of Giovanni's Restaurant, stop it!

It's fake news. At least, it's fake news here in the Sault.

The popular eatery at 516 Great Northern Rd. went on to social media Friday night to advise that it's not closing on Jan. 25 or anytime in the foreseeable future.

"Just feel this should be addressed" the Sault Giovanni's posted on its Facebook page.

"We were notified that this post has been circulating and we have been getting messages about this. This is NOT Giovanni’s Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie. We are NOT CLOSING! Thank you."

The Instagram screen capture that's been alarming local Giovanni's fans is signed by John and Frank Martino.

But they're not Saultites.

They're in Edgewood, Maryland.

"To our valued customers and friends, we are saddened to announce Giovanni’s will be closing next week," the Martinos posted on Facebook on Jan. 15. "Our last day will be Saturday, January 25th so please come down and join us one more time!"

"This letter is signed by people that are not owners of our Giovanni's Restaurant in the Soo," one relieved Saultite responded tonight.

"Wow, almost had a heart attack till I read it all," wrote another.
