On April 28, 2016 just before noon hour the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service attended in the downtown area after a caller reported a male spray painting a concrete post on McDougald Street.

The caller was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect. Officers located the accused a short time shortly after and arrested him for mischief under $5,000.

Officers from Patrol Services along with an officer from Investigation Services, who has been assigned to address the concerns with graffiti, were able to link this male to an earlier incident reported on April 17.

In this instance, sometime overnight a trailer parked at Worlds Cars on Trunk Road had been painted with graffiti. A witness observed a male and provided information to the police the next day.

Investigators were able to link the description of the accused in both incidents along with similar graffiti markings.

26-year old Shawn Anderson of Chambers Avenue has been charged with two counts of mischief under $5,000 and will appear in court on May 20.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to thank the citizens who took the time to report the crimes as they were happening.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public to report these crimes when they see them happening.
