With the increase of COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region of late, the Canadian Red Cross has sent staff to Batchewana First Nation in an effort to assist with the measures currently in place.

Among the services the Red Cross will help with are vaccination clinics and rapid testing.

Following is a full release from Batchewana First Nation:

The Canadian Red Cross have mobilized their resources and deployed staff to Batchewana First Nation (BFN) to assist with Pandemic Measures due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in the Algoma Region.

The Red Cross will be working directly with Batchewana First Nation’s Health Team to address several of the growing needs of the First Nation. Services will include vaccination clinics and rapid testing.

A testing site has been set up at the Batchewana First Nation Health Centre located at 210 Gran Street on the Rankin Reserve. Here, medical staff from both the Red Cross and BFN Team are available to assist and support all vaccination clinics for first, second, booster doses as well as the recent roll out of vaccination for children aged 5 to 11

Rapid Testing is also available on-site which will help to quickly identify positive cases within each of the BFN communities (Rankin, Goulais and Obadjiwan). The Health Centre can make arrangements to accommodate individuals who wish to be tested in Goulais and Obadjiwan. Members from outlying communities who have access to
transportation will be reimbursed for their costs to travel to appointments.

The Red Cross team includes an on-site Operations Manager and several medically trained staff who will work closely with the BFN Health Team all of whom are medically trained to administer vaccinations and testing.

For more information or to book an appointment please contact the Health Centre at (705) 254-7827 ext. 145. Please be sure to clearly leave your first and last name as well as a contact number.
