Most residents of Blind River are no longer being asked to boil their drinking water.

THe standing boil-water advisory was lifted today for all of Blind River with the exception of parts of Colonization Road and Woodward Avenue.

The following is the full text of an announcement made today by the Algoma Health Unit:

******************* Notice to consumers of the Blind River Water System

January 8, 2004

The boil-water advisory is mow lifted for the majority of the town except for the following two (2) areas:

1. A section of Colonization Road from the intersection of Birch St. to the west end. 2. A section of Woodward Ave. from 296 Woodward Ave. to 304 Woodward Ave.

The Algoma Health Unit is advising consumers that effective January 9, 2004, that the Boil Water Advisory is now lifted except for the two areas mentioned above.

Bacteriological results have shown there are no Total Coliforms or E.coli in the water throughout the entire system.

The remaining two areas are undergoing extensive testing for free chlorine residuals by the Ontario Clean Water Agency.

Once the chlorine results are consistent, the boil water advisory for these areas may be lifted.

Residents who are connected to the Blind River water system and are still connected to their own private wells are reminded to disconnect their private wells and advise the Town of Blind River of their disconnection.

Having both the town water and private well connected into your residence/business may cause a cross-connection which could contaminate the Town supply.

You may resume use of this water for drinking purposes without boiling except for the the areas still remaining under the Boil Water Advisory.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact a Public Health Inspector at 1-888-211-4739 ext. 215 or ext. 212.
