Raising cash (and some scares) for Soo Zombie Walk (8 photos)

Organizers raising funds for next year's walk

The Soo Zombie Walk held a fundraiser at the M.S. Norgoma Saturday, as people of all ages came on board for a certifiably spooky time.

It's hoped that the annual Soo Zombie Walk will go ahead next year.

"We kind of ran out of time and money to put together our usual walk at the bushplane," said Soo Zombie Walk founder Janna Goulay-Pond, who also sits on the event's planning committee. "So this event today is a fundraiser for next year's zombie walk – to raise the money we need for the venue, the insurance, to put it all together."

Maker North, retro video gamer Svenny McG and Soo York were also on board the vessel during the fundraiser.

Goulay-Pond says that the zombie walk, which she founded in the Sault 10 years ago, should come back bigger and better than ever for next year.

She told SooToday that it takes roughly $1,500 to get the walk up and running each year.

"It's just been such a fun event, and I think it's really unique – there's no other events like this in the Sault," said Goulay-Pond. "It kind of speaks to the youth of the city. It gives them something fun to do.

"Whether you're an adult or a kid, you can dress up and have some fun."
