MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NEWS RELEASE

********************* August 3, 2004 -- Heavy rains Monday in Mackinac County caused part of the shoulder to wash out on US-2.

The affected portion of the roadway is approximately 200 feet west of the Cut River Bridge.

The bridge itself was not damaged.

The damaged 100-foot stretch does include some minor structural damage to the roadway itself causing that lane to be closed to motorists.

"We have crews out there working now and we hope to have the road reopened to traffic by Thursday," said John Batchelder, Newberry Transportation Service Center manager.

Eastbound US-2 traffic is being shifted to the left lane, while westbound traffic is being detoured onto Cut River Road.
