Hughes begins presentation of Jubilee Medals in Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE – The distribution of the Queen’s Jubilee Medals is underway in Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing.

The first of 30 medals being distributed by MP, Carol Hughes {shown} were presented in Elliot Lake last week.

“The process revealed many worthy recipients and I wish I was able to direct more of these awards,” said Hughes. “For the people who receive them, it is a nice acknowledgement of their contribution to their community.

Hughes handed out medals at New Year’s Levees for the Elliot Lake Legion and the Mayor and also at a January 5 Civic Centre reception.

She notes that the call for nominations in her June householder (distributed to every residence in the constituency) was well met.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to make a nomination,” said Hughes. “It was nice to see just how many exceptional people there are in the area”

Hughes says there will be ceremonies until the end of February in communities throughout the constituency.

The remaining recipients will be revealed at those events.
