Elliot Lake Secondary School is offering an innovative new program this year.

Up to 30 students attending there in 2005-06 will have the option of participating in a unique Personal Service Worker program, says Algoma District School Board Superintendent Bob Cole.

The program is paid for under special government funding, separate from standard Ministry of Education and Training dollars, Cole says.

"Students will earn Ontario Secondary School Diploma credits and a Personal Service Worker certificate that would allow them to work as home care attendants."

Cole said the program originated with the Mississauga First Nations Community but when Sault College was unable to pick up the option to run it, Algoma District School Board stepped in.
