PUC: No truth to rumours of 2 p.m. planned outage

PUC Services tell us they're unaware of any planned "load-shed" or other disruption of electrical service between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today. The local PUC offices have been flooded with calls about a rumour to that effect.

PUC Services tell us they're unaware of any planned "load-shed" or other disruption of electrical service between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today.

The local PUC offices have been flooded with calls about a rumour to that effect.

One version of the load-shed rumour states that Canadian Tire will close this afternoon because of the planned outage.

SooToday News called the store and have been assured that's definitely untrue, because the Sault Canadian Tire has back-up generators that allow it to operate under blackout conditions.

Not only was the store open last night, but it extended its regular hours of business by one hour, to 10 p.m., to meet the needs of its customers.

Power was restored to most of the Sault by 4 a.m. today and has been relatively stable so far.

However, both PUC officials and City police are cautioning that further problems are possible as the Sault is reconnected to the provincial grid.
