On Monday, Nov. 5, Mayor Christian Provenzano will commemorate National Francophone Immigration Week through the reading of a proclamation at the meeting of City Council.

National Francophone Immigration Week is an initiative of the Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada (Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities of Canada, FCFA) and the Réseaux en immigration francophone (Francophone Immigration Networks, RIFs) to celebrate Francophone immigration and diversity. It is an opportunity to recognize newcomers’ contributions to the vitality and dynamism of Francophone communities outside of Quebec, as well as to showcase these communities’ efforts to attract, welcome, and support the integration of newcomers and strengthen ties between Francophone immigrants and host communities.

Following the proclamation reading, the public is invited to Solo Trattoria, 250 Queen St. E. from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a meet and greet with Mme. Joanne Carrière from the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages. Come eat, learn, and mingle.

The proclamation to be read at Council recognizes the tremendous efforts of the Sault Ste. Marie Local Immigration Partnership, the Sault Ste. Marie Community Career Centre’s newcomer settlement services and CÉFA – Centre d’éducation et de formation pour adultes.  All are welcome to attend.
