8:45 p.m. update

Power has been restored to all customers. If you are still without power please call the PUC Emergency number at 759-6555.

Since 9:55 a.m., the power has been off for 549 PUC customers in Sault Ste. Marie.

The cause of the outage is unknown and under investigation, says a release from PUC.

The release doesn't give an estimated duration of the outage.

The area involved is Elmwood, Cameron, and Blake Streets from McNabb Street to Wawanosh Avenue.

PUC reminds all of our customers:

  • Downed wires should always be considered energized or "live", and extremely dangerous
  • Do not approach or drive over a downed power line and do not touch anything the power line may be in contact with
  • Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about powerline safety and the dangers that can be associated with power lines
  • Take all the necessary safety precautions during a power outage
