Power outage impacts large chunk of east end (update)

3:55 p.m. update:
Power has been restored to all affected customers.

2:15 p.m. update:
Power has been restored to 830 customers. 928 customers remain without power. PUC Crews are working to repair the issue as quickly as possible.

Original information:
Sault Ste. Marie PUC is currently investigating the cause of an unplanned power outage impacting customers in the city’s east end.

The outage appears to include the areas of Pine Street, Algoma University, Boundary Road and Dacey Road.

Crews responded to the outage shortly after 12:30 p.m. today.

PUC reminds all customers:
    •    Downed wires should always be considered energized or "live", and extremely dangerous
    •    Do not approach or drive over a downed power line and do not touch anything the power line may be in contact with
    •    Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about powerline safety and the dangers that can be associated with power lines
    •    Take all the necessary safety precautions during a power outage
