Last Wednesday, Premier Doug Ford broke the news that students will not be returning to the classroom this school year.

Schools have been closed to most students since April after the delayed spring break. Most students have been doing teacher-led online learning, with schools only being open to in-person learning for special education students who cannot be accommodated through remote learning.

The reaction has been mixed, with some parents hoping their kids would end the school year on some kind of 'normal' note, after a hectic year of online learning and on-and-off closures. Others have been firm that in order to have a 'normal' summer and get back to business-as-usual by September, we have to sacrifice the end of this year.

So we decided to ask our readers what they think.

SooToday posed the question: Do you agree with the province's decision to keep students out of the classroom for the remainder of the year?

The majority of poll respondents agree with the government's decision to keep kids at home for the rest of the year.

The breakdown was as follows:

  • 1,167 (65 per cent) voted yes
  • 629 (35 per cent) voted no

A total of 1,796 confirmed local votes were cast in the poll. This poll had a 2.29 per cent margin of error, 19 times out of 20.

SooToday's polling system allows for the capture of relevant local data and gives us the ability to detect and prevent fraudulent votes, as well as detect and prevent robots and filter out non-local duplicate votes.
