Police stop a VW. Cocaine charges ensue

WAWA - On Sunday June 15, 2014 at 12:25 p.m., members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment received a traffic complaint of a southbound vehicle weaving on Highway 17 in the area of Paint Lake Road between White River and Wawa. 

The vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 17 in Menzies Township.

As a result of police investigation both occupants of the silver 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan were arrested and taken into police custody. 

The driver 27-year-old Steven SEARS of Halifax, Nova Scotia was charged with the following;

• Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cocaine as per s. 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Ace (CDSA)
• Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Methlenedioxyamphetamine (Ectasy) as per s. 4(1) of the CDSA
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per s. 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
• Possession of Break In Instruments as per s. 351(1) of the CC
• Attempt Obstruct Justice as per s. 139(2) of the CC
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 as per s. 354(1)(a) of the CC
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order as per s. 733.1(1) of the CC – 2 counts
• Fail to Comply with Recognizance as per s. 145(3) of the CC

The passenger, 28-year-old Lee DION of Sarnia, Ontario was charged with the following;

• Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cocaine as per s. 4(1) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Ace (CDSA)
• Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Methlenedioxyamphetamine (Ectasy) as per s. 4(1) of the CDSA
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose as per s. 88 of the Criminal Code (CC)
• Possession of Break In Instruments as per s. 351(1) of the CC
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 as per s. 354(1)(a) of the CC
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order as per s. 733.1(1) of the CC

Both accused were transported to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the Court of Justice for a bail hearing on June 17, 2014.
