Police say 12-year-old asked to perform sex acts

An Elliot Lake man faces charges

ELLIOT LAKE – On May 20, 2016, members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a sexual offence in the City of Elliot Lake.

Investigation determined that a 12-year-old male was approached by an older male asking numerous questions of a sexual nature.

The older male invited the young male to his residence to perform a sexual act. The younger male ran away and reported the incident to police.

Thomas Victor Sutherland, 63 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario was arrested and charged with Invitation to Sexual Touching, contrary to section 152 of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sault Ste. Marie and held for video remand on May 26, 2016.
