A stolen vehicle pursued by City police from behind the Zeller's store on Northern Avenue got half way to Thunder Bay before its occupants gave themselves up.

Pursued by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service up Great Northern Road and then as far as White River by the Ontario Provincial Police, the two males managed to evade at least two spike belts, police tell SooToday.com.

The 310-kilometre chase started just before 5:30 a.m. when City Police officers noticed a suspicious vehicle behind Zellers.

The vehicle sped off when officers attempted to stop it.

It was pursued along Northern Avenue to Pine Street and back onto Northern Avenue before the suspects fled north on Great Northern Road toward the City limits.

The vehicle turned out to have been stolen in British Columbia.

OPP were asked to join the pursuit when it became apparent that the vehicle was heading out of town.

The takedown in White River occurred around 9 a.m.

Two individuals, one a young person, are in custody and are being returned to the Sault.
