Pies thrown at high school students on Second Line (6 photos)

St. Mary's College students take part in an 'in your face' cancer fundraiser for young local woman battling cancer, Canadian Cancer Society

A group of good natured, fun loving St. Mary’s College students took a pie in the face (several times each) to raise money for cancer research Wednesday.

“I like that we’re doing something fun while working toward a great cause,” said Kieran Desjardins, a St. Mary’s College student who, along with fellow St. Mary’s student Hope Bye, also serves as a student trustee with the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (H-SCDSB).

For a minimum of a one dollar donation, St. Mary’s students could gently smear the faces and heads of Desjardins, Bye and several other willing schoolmates with pies filed with whipped cream in the school’s cafeteria during lunch hour.

Money raised from the pie event will go to cancer treatment costs for Gayle Katzenback, a local young woman currently fighting cancer, as well as the Canadian Cancer Society, Desjardins said.

April is the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Month, to show support for people battling cancer.
