The Sault Ste. Marie Chapter of the Period Purse is hosting their Spring Blitz from April 22 to May 4, 2019.

The goal of this volunter-run organization is to achieve menstrual equity by providing marginalized women with access to free menstrual products, while also reducing the stigma surrounding periods.

The Period Purse encourages local citizens and businesses to donate large purses, bags, backpacks and totes, period products, cloth pads and washcloths, new socks and underwear, bar soap, hats, mitts, scarves and sweet treats to the Spring Blitz.

All donated products are packed with a comforting, motivational note. These products will be donated to Pauline's Place, a 19-bed emergency shelter for women, youth, and families experiencing homelesnsess.

Items can be dropped off at the following locations and times:

  • Canadian Mental Health Association, 386 Queen St. E., Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sault Ste. Marie YMCA, 235 McNabb St., Monday to Friday 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Since 2017, The Period Purse has given nearly 20,000 healthy periods to Canadians and has worked with seven schools to provide inclusive educational programming to staff and students, as well as resources to enhance the understanding of gaps, and subsequent action items, around menstrual equity and sustainable, positive period experiences for all.
