Ron Swain PC candidate, vows to fight for nuclear power generation in the North
BRUCE MINES, ON - "I am running for John Tory and the Progressive Conservative Party because I want to be an advocate for the people of Algoma-Manitoulin and address the issues that concern them, including the development of a new nuclear plant in the North," said Swain. "I am pleased to welcome Ron Swain as part of our Progressive Conservative Team," said Tory. "He is a champion of our plan to foster greater economic development and diversity in the North. He has also expressed his strong support for our party's policy of developing additional nuclear power in Ontario, and he has put me on notice that he will be an advocate for the development of a Northern option. I think he will be a strong voice for his community on this and other issues." Swain said: "We need jobs in the North, we need better roads, we need money not just vote buying money at election time but each and every year, and we need our Northern voices to be heard at Queen's Park. Many citizens in Algoma Manitoulin have had to leave over the years having lost their jobs or fear job loss, can’t keep up with rising heating bills, electrical bills, fuel bills and taxes."
"In the late 70s, the then "Ontario Hydro" examined sites in the North Channel between Bruce Mines, Blind River and near Little Current. The report recommended two locations near Iron Bridge and advised a nuclear centre of 12,000 megawatts was feasible."
Swain stated: "The Ontario Power Authority and the Liberals just released its $60 billion power plan. The plan contains a north-south transmission power grid upgrade, and building nuclear plants. We in the North want our northern nuclear option explored and on the table when decisions to build new nuclear reactors are made."
