Pat and Deb take seats at Algoma Public Health board

Algoma Public Health (APH) welcomed two new board members to the Board of Health at its meeting on September 28th. 

Dr. Patricia Avery, M.D. and Deborah Graystone, Nurse Practitioner, were appointed by the Province of Ontario on August 4, 2016 to serve on the board.

“We welcome both Dr. Avery and Ms. Graystone to our board and look forward to the professional expertise and knowledge, as well as their board experience, that they will bring to the Board of Health,” says Lee Mason, Chair, Board of Health. 

APH is a public health agency committed to improving health and reducing social inequities in health through evidence-informed practice.

APH has two hundred employees with a main office in Sault Ste. Marie and three offices in the Algoma district: Blind River, Elliot Lake and Wawa.

About Dr. Avery

Dr. Patricia Avery was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. She attended medical school at the University of Toronto. Dr. Avery has been a Family Physician in Sault Ste. Marie for over 30 years. She has sat on numerous boards and committees over the last 10 years holding various positions.  

About Deborah Graystone

Ms. Graystone was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie. She completed her education at Sault College and Laurentian University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Diploma. She has been employed for 30 years at the Sault Area Hospital in various roles and departments. From 2006-2009 she worked as the NP Lead in the development of the Algoma Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic where she then served as the chair of the board of directors for the clinic from 2009-2014 and continued to be a member of the board until 2016. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the College of Nurses.
