Passenger vehicle bridge crossings down nearly 98 per cent

Year-to-date International Bridge traffic is down more than 87 per cent

In a news release issued today, the International Bridge Administration (IBA) reported that bridge traffic for the calendar year is down more than 87 per cent.

One-way crossings were also down more than 87 per cent last month compared to February 2020.

Passenger vehicles represent the largest decline in traffic, down 97.9 per cent.

Traffic for the calendar year-to-date on Feb. 28, 2021, is 23,248. This represents a year-to-date decrease of 87.2 per cent. The bridge has processed 103 million bridge crossings since 1962.

The International Bridge Administration today announced that one-way traffic crossings of the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie totalled 11,362 for the month of February 2021. This figure represents a decrease of 87.3 per cent, a difference of 77,950 crossings as compared to February 2020.

The International Bridge self-funds with toll revenue all operational costs. Operational costs include the bridge structure, maintenance facilities, the Bridge Authority toll plaza, and building maintenance.
