Second Avenue between Second Line West and Connaught Avenue is expected to close for road reconstruction effective May 1.

City Council is expected to approve the work at its meeting on Monday.

The closure is scheduled to continue until October 31.

Councillors will be asked to approve Avery Construction Ltd.'s low tender of $1.5 million (excluding HST) for the Second Avenue work.

Three other companies bid on the job.

After PUC pays its share of the project, the city's cost to complete the work is projected at $1.4 million, higher than the $1.1 million earmarked in the 2020 capital budget.

In other news, City Council is expected to award a one-year sole-source contract for supplying blast furnace slag and nut slag to the city – at tendered prices of $7.45 and $7.30 a tonne respectively – to Inter-Ontario Equipment Rental and Repair Ltd.
