David Orazietti intends to hold onto his Ward 1 City Council seat during his campaign as Sault Ste. Marie's Liberal candidate in the October 2 provincial election.

Orazietti has advised City Clerk Donna Irving that he'll be missing the two City Council meetings scheduled for September, including one on Monday night.

Under Ontario's Municipal Act, councillors may be absent for up to three months without authorization from Council.

The following is the full text of a note sent yesterday by the Ward 1 councillor to Irving:

**************************************************************** I am asking for my honouraria payment and monthly car allowance to not be paid from September 2, 2003 to October 2, 2003.

In addition, would you please ask Mayor Rowswell to advise council and the public at the September 8th council meeting that I will be absent for the two September council meetings as a result of my candidacy in the Provincial election.

****************************************************************
