ORILLIA - The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) recently released a ground-breaking document that aims to strengthen police relationships with people in gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) communities.

As a member of the OACP, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was instrumental in the development of the new document entitled Best Practices in Policing and LGBTQ Communities in Ontario

OPP members involved in the working group say this document will assist police services to actively deal with issues related to police and members of LGBTQ communities.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) fully supports this document and is committed to fostering positive relationships with the LGBTQ communities and members.

“Any tools that can equip our members to respect and accommodate the rights of all people is a good one. The OPP remains committed to developing and maintaining good relationships with the citizens of Ontario, and that includes our LGBTQ communities.” - OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis
