THESSALON - On May 16, 2016 at around 4 p.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB), Sudbury Unit, executed a search warrant at a residence on Biish Road in Thessalon First Nation. 

The investigation focused on an individual from the Thessalon First Nation who was involved with the production of cannabis marijuana. 

East Algoma OPP officers and the North East Region OPP Canine unit assisted with the search warrant. A quantity of marijuana, a firearm and ammunition were seized.

As a result of the investigation, an indoor marijuana grow operation was dismantled and the estimated street value of the marijuana seized is approximately $5,800. 

Theodore Bissailon, 49 years of age from Thessalon First Nation, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Production of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis Marijuana), contrary to section 7(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (Cannabis Marijuana under 30 grams), contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act,  

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 7, 2016.
