A Northern Ontario police officer has been charged with sexual assault and criminal harassment after a 21-year-old woman filed a stalking complaint.
Constable Michael Potter, 27, of Temiskaming Detachment was arrested and charged last night.
Ontario Provincial Police issued the following news release at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday:

NEW LISKEARD, ON, Oct. 11 - The Ontario Provincial Police arrested and charged one of their own following an investigation into allegations that he stalked and sexually assaulted a 21-year-old female during the past year.
The victim, who was known to the officer, attended at Temiskaming Detachment on October 4th, 2003 and filed a complaint; an investigation was immediately commenced.
Charged is Michael POTTER, 27.
He has been charged with two counts of Criminal Harassment and one count of Sexual Assault.
POTTER has been a Constable with the Ontario Provincial Police for three years and is currently working at the Temiskaming Detachment.
He has been suspended from duty, pending the outcome of the case.
He was arrested last night without incident, and is scheduled to appear in New Liskeard court on November 18, 2003.
The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Phil George, OPP Professional Standards Bureau.
