OPP investigating murder in Blind River

BLIND RIVER - On March 15, 2014 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Blind River Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a disturbance on a residential street in Blind River. 

Investigation revealed that two males had been involved in an altercation.

One of the males was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The second male was subsequently arrested at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is not being released pending completion of a post mortem examination.

Ian Hammond, 18, of Blind River, Ontario has been charged with first degree murder.

He has been remanded into custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on March 20, 2014.

Members with the North East Region OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Jim Smyth of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), are continuing their investigation.
