(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - On Sunday, February 8th, 2004 police attended a residence on Mississauga Avene regarding a Fail to Remain Accident.

The complainant advised police that she was walking up the sidewalk when she moved to allow snowmobiles to drive by.

Not long after, one of the snowmobiles lost control and went down a snow bank hitting a parked car.

The driver did not stop and left the scene.

The accident occurred around 6:05 p.m.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

Police would like to remind the public that sidewalks are for pedestrian not snowmobiles. Ride on the right side of the road and stick to the trails. RIDE SAFE!

Snow vehicle operator operating while impaired

(Johnson, Twp. Ont.) - Early Saturday morning, officers from the East Algoma–Thessalon O.P.P. were called to a snow vehicle mishap On Government Road in Desbarats.

The ambulance operators arrived before hand and discovered that the driver of the snow machine had been drinking.

When the officers spoke with the driver they discovered signs of Impairment and arrested the driver.

The investigation revealed that the snow machine failed to negotiate a right turn and slid into the snow bank causing the driver to fall off and make a "snow angel" in the snow bank, he sustained no injuries. Charged with Care or Control of a motor Vehicle while Impaired is 45-year-old Kenneth Lee Phillips of Government Road in Bruce Mines.

Phillips will appear in Court on March 25th.

Thieves busy on Friday night

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) - On Friday, February 6, 2004, the OPP attended the local swimming pool to investigate a theft report.

On scene police were advised that unknown person(s) attended the locker area and stole several items.

Stolen from the locker room were two wallets and a set of keys.

Investigation also revealed that during the times of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. unknown suspect(s) searched several vehicles and several items were taken.

Stolen are two shirts, a disc walkman and a purse.

Police also received a complaint of a stolen Montana Mini-Van from the same parking lot.

The stolen vehicle was later recovered by police.

Anyone with any information regarding the above thefts, is asked to contact the OPP.

Investigation continuing.

Drunken scrap leads to assault charges

(Blind River, Ont.) - On Saturday morning shortly after 2 a.m. officers from the East Algoma O.P.P. were called to a disturbance at a West St. Residence in Blind River.

Investigation revealed that a gathering at the residence got out of hand when a 19-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were arguing while intoxicated.

The male was hit with a beer bottle and the female was pushed and grabbed.

When officers arrived there were several broken bottles and two windows in the residence broken leaving chards of glass strewn about the house.

The 17-year-old female was charged with Assault with a weapon and will appear in Youth Court on 08 Mar 04 in Blind River.

19-year-old Thomas Major of West St in Blind River was charged with Assault and Breach of Probation and will appear in Court on 04 Mar 04.

The female's name cannot be released under the protection of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
