Ontario reports 3,813 new COVID cases Saturday

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,813 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 10).

Today's report includes 2,422 recoveries and 19 new deaths.  

The April 10 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

• 30,999 active cases, which is up from 29,627 yesterday
• 1,524 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,492 reported yesterday. 
• There are 585 COVID patients in intensive care units (up from 552 yesterday) and 384 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 359 reported yesterday)
• The province reported 61,439 tests were processed yesterday
• Another 42,963 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.09 million tests have been completed.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

• 13,213 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
• 76 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
• 134 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
• Another 24,244 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet sequenced.
• According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Vaccines

• There were 104,783 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 9, which is down from 105,382 doses on April 8.
• As of 8 p.m. on April 9, the province reported 3,044,949 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
• In total, 330,982 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 382,152 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 343,622 recoveries and 7,531 deaths, of which 3,907 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
