Ontario reports 370 new COVID cases Thursday

Today's update also includes 635 recoveries, 28 hospitalizations and seven deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 370 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 17).

Today's update also includes 635 new recoveries and seven deaths. 

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, one person between 40 and 59 years old, two people between 60 and 79 years old, and three people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday's update, there have been 28 new hospitalizations, and six more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 17 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 4,390 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 4,662 yesterday.
  • 397 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 438 yesterday.
  • There are 362 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (65 of those people no longer test positive for COVID-19) and 232 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 242 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 30,454 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.3 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 11,462 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 67 are from Toronto, 47 cases are from Peel, and nine are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 90 individuals aged 19 and under, 126 people between 20 and 39 years old, 99 people between 40 and 59 years old, 48 people between 60 and 79 years old, and seven people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 210,611 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 202,984 doses administered on June 15.
  • 11,943,025 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 2,371,035 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 541,180 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 527,797 recoveries and 8,993 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,640.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 22.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 29.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 399 cases, weekly rate of  2.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 397 cases. There are four known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 499 cases, weekly rate of 21.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 501 cases. There are 41 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,913 cases, weekly rate of 293.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,901 cases. There are 304 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,106 cases, weekly rate of 6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,126 cases. There are 20 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 208 cases, weekly rate of 3.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 208. There is one known active case. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,075 cases, weekly rate of 6.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,073 cases. There are six known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,327 cases, weekly rate of 15.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,328 cases. There are 35 known active cases.
