Ontario reports 3,670 new COVID cases Tuesday

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,670 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 13).

Today's report includes 2,573 recoveries and 15 new deaths.  

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, ten people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over the age of 79 years old.

The province has reported 124 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 26 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The April 13 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

• 35,840 active cases, which is up from 34,758 yesterday. 
• 1,822 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,646 reported yesterday. 
• There are 626 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 619 yesterday) and 422 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 408 reported yesterday)
• The province reported 42,167 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 10.3 per cent positivity rate. This is the highest positivity rate to date. The rate represents the number of people who test positive compared to the number of tests processed.
• Another 35,679 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.2 million tests have been completed.
• Of the 3,670 new cases reported today, 1,016 are from Toronto, 613 cases are from Peel, 519 are from York Region, and 102 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
• There are 47 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 28 at retirement homes, and 36 at hospitals. 
• The new cases reported today include 721 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,344 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,075 people between 40 and 59 years old, 459 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 72 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

• There were  95,692 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 12, which is up from 74,7224 doses on April 11.
• As of 6 p.m. on April 12, the province reported 3,310,157 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
• In total, 335,262 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 394,679 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 351,257 recoveries and 7,582 deaths, of which 3,908 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,655.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 161.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 26.6 per cent from last week (March 28 to April 3). 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

• Algoma Public Health: 275 cases, rate of 240.3 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 273cases. There are 46 known active cases, including one person who is temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. There are three confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant of concern. Three tests have screened positive for a variant of concern but the strain is not known yet. 
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 316 cases, rate of 243.5 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 318 cases. There are 18 known active cases. There have been 31 confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 27 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are 13 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
• Porcupine Health Unit: 412 cases, rate of 493.8 per 100,000 people. There are 42 known active cases. There have been four confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are three tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,728 cases, rate of 868.2 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,740. There are 263 known active cases. There have been 13 confirmed UK (B.1.1.7) variants of concern. There are 512 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
• Timiskaming Health Unit: 130 cases, rate of 397.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 133 cases. There are two known active cases. There have been 22 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. 
• Northwestern Health Unit: 768 cases, rate of 876 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 760 cases. There are 47 known active cases. There have been 10 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant. There are 15 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 2,979 cases, rate of 1986.5 per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 2,984 cases. There are 87 known active cases. There are eight tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.
