Ontario reports 2,716 new COVID cases Monday

Public Health Ontario has reported 2,716 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 10). 

Today's report includes 3,110 recoveries and 19 new deaths.

Today's deaths include six people between 40 and 59 years old, 10 people between 60 and 79 years old, and three people over 79 years old. 

Since yesterday, the province has reported 124 new hospitalizations and 23 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The May 10 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

• 31,991 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 32,404 reported yesterday. 
• 1,632 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,640 reported yesterday. 
• There are 828 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 848 yesterday) and 547 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 580 reported yesterday).
• The province reported 27,175 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 9.1 per cent positivity.
• Another 12,837 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.5 million tests have been completed.
• Of the new cases reported today, 807 are from Toronto, 707 cases are from Peel, 294 are from York Region, and 41 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
• Today's cases include 544 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,112 people between 20 and 39 years old, 741 people between 40 and 59 years old, 271 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 50 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

• There were 94,093 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 9.
• As of 6 p.m. on May 9, the province reported 6,238,778 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
• In total, 393,884 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 495,019 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 454,701 recoveries and 8,327 deaths, of which 3,931 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,330.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 148.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 12 per cent from last week (April 24 to April 30). 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

• Algoma Public Health: 347 cases, weekly rate of  9.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 346 cases. There are 27 known active cases. 
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 383 cases, weekly rate of 20.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 387 cases. There are 32 known active cases. 
• Porcupine Health Unit: 722 cases, weekly rate of 79.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 721. There are 125 known active cases.
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,987 cases, weekly rate of 26.6 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,011 cases. There are 77 known active cases. 
• Timiskaming Health Unit: 196 cases, weekly rate of 36.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are 11 known active cases. 
• Northwestern Health Unit: 1,002 cases, weekly rate of 69.6 cases per 100,000 people. There are 78 known active cases.
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,143 cases, weekly rate of 24 cases per 100,000 people. There are 40 known active cases.
