Ontario reports 255 new COVID cases Wednesday

Public Health Ontario has reported 255 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 23). 

Today's update also includes 460 new recoveries and 11 deaths. 

The deaths reported include one person between 20 and 39 years old, six people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old.

Since yesterday's report, there have been 39 new hospitalizations and 16 patients admitted to intensive care units for COVID-related illness.

The June 23 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

• 3,032 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 3,248 yesterday.
• 295 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 334 yesterday.
• There are 305 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (54 of those people no longer test positive for COVID-19) and 190 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 202 with yesterday).
• The province reported 27,364 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.2 per cent positivity rate. 
• There are 13,342 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.7 million tests to date.
• Of the new cases reported today, 57 are from Toronto, 25 cases are from Peel, two are from Simcoe-Muskoka and 10 are from York Region.
• Today's cases include 45 individuals aged 19 and under, 122 people between 20 and 39 years old, 64 people between 40 and 59 years old, 24 people between 60 and 79 years old, and two people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

• There were 227,318 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 199,535 doses administered on June 20.
• 13,096,628 doses of vaccine have been administered.
• In total, 3,343,744 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 543,019 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 530,894 recoveries and 9,093 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,653.1 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 16.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 27.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

• Algoma Public Health: 400 cases, weekly rate of  0.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 399 cases. There are four known active cases. 
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 555 cases, weekly rate of 33.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 557  cases. There are 52 known active cases. 
• Porcupine Health Unit: 1,978 cases, weekly rate of 122.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,972 cases. There are 143 known active cases. 
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,128 cases, weekly rate of 11.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,147 cases. There are 30 known active cases. 
• Timiskaming Health Unit: 207 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 208. There are no known active cases. 
• Northwestern Health Unit: 1,082 cases, weekly rate of 9.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,080. There are six known active cases, including one active case outside of the catchment area.
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,330 cases, weekly rate of 8.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,331 cases. There are 9 known active cases.
