Ontario reports 164 new COVID cases Tuesday, 168 cases Monday

The province published the Monday and Tuesday daily updates today, announcing 280 more recoveries and two deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 332 new COVID cases over the last two days, with 168 on Monday and 164 on Tuesday. 

The province posted both updates today because of the civic holiday yesterday. 

The two updates include a total of 280 new recoveries and two deaths.

The August 3 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 1,717 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 1,667 on Aug. 1.
  • 71 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 106 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 29 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 59 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 19 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 11,515 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.3 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 4,933 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.6 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 14 are from Waterloo, 45 are from Toronto, 22 cases are from Peel, none are from Simcoe-Muskoka, one is from Grey-Bruce, and 23 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 44 individuals aged 19 and under, 69 people between 20 and 39 years old, 30 people between 40 and 59 years old, 17 people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people over 79 years old. 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 550,986 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 539,920 recoveries and 9,349 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,706.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 8.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 18.9 per cent from last week.

Vaccines

  • There were 31,015 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 19,591,917 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 9,095,394 people have been fully vaccinated.

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 406 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 405 cases. There is one known active case.
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 653 cases, weekly rate of 3.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 655 cases. There are seven known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 2,147 cases, weekly rate of 10.8 cases per 100,000 people. There are 17 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,163 cases, weekly rate of 2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,183 cases. There are seven known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 208 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. There are no known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,102 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,098. There are no known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,345 cases, weekly rate of 0.7 cases per 100,000 people. There are three known active cases. 

The data from Northern Ontario health units is based on what was available at 10:30 a.m. today.
