Algoma Public Health (APH) has confirmed one new case of COVID-19 in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

Case #462 was exposed through close contact, states a notice issued by APH.

The individual was tested on Sept. 19 and is currently self-isolating.

There are currently 15 active cases across the Algoma District, and no COVID-related hospitalizations.

“Since July 2021, the predominant strain of COVID-19 present in Algoma has been the Delta Variant (B.1.617.2),” states APH on its website. “Public Health Ontario estimates that in the first week of September, 2021 the majority (93.3 per cent) of COVID-19 cases in Ontario had a mutation profile (N501Y- and E484K-) consistent with the Delta Variant.”
