One injured in residential fire on Wellington St. E.

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – May 25, 2020 - On Saturday, May 23rd, 2020, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Fire Service crews responded to a call of a residential fire in the 300 block of Wellington Street East.

Upon arrival, there was visible black smoke emitting from the upper level of the two unit residential dwelling. Fire crews were able to contain the fire.

Upon investigation, a SSMFS Fire Prevention Officer determined the fire was caused by a cigarette in proximity to combustibles.

As a result of the fire, the interior upper level of the dwelling received extensive damage.  A resident was taken to Sault Area Hospital with injuries sustained from the fire.
