Two former PUC buildings near the utility's headquarters at 500 Second Line East are undergoing changes.

Reliance Home Comfort has signed a lease to occupy about 5,100 square feet of the former PUC Trbovich site at 550 Second Line East.

That's the second building east of PUC headquarters.

It was the works centre of the City of Sault Ste. Marie’s parks division before it was acquired by the PUC.

Reliance has trades workers at the site now and hopes to open its doors next month next to Roofmart Ontario, which bought the structure four years ago.

"It will be home to our regional warehouse, our service and install teams, and retail space for walk-ins that have questions about their home heating, ventilation, cooling and plumbing," says Mike Kolatschek, Reliance's manager of corporate communications.

The new Sault operation will cover Algoma and surrounding areas, Kolatschek tells SooToday.

Roofmart was represented in the transaction by John Filipetti of Castle Realty.

Reliance was represented by James Caicco of Century 21.

"Reliance was very happy to secure this location.," Caicco said. "They wanted a central and convenient location."

"The PUC building is a great fit for Reliance given its centralized, high-visibility location along the city’s main strip," said Kolatschek.

"Easy access to the highway will allow us to service homes and businesses in surrounding areas, and we’re minutes from one of our biggest supplier partners - Wolseley."

Meanwhile, a notice of vacant possession was posted at 10:30 a.m. today at PUC's old C.J. Murphy building at 510 Second Line East, the first building east of PUC headquarters.

PUC is expected to offer the site for sale.

Further details were not immediately available.
