Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is pleased to issue today a third quarter (Oct. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2021) non-tax gaming revenue payment of $273,611 to the City of Sault Ste. Marie for hosting Gateway Casinos – Sault Ste. Marie.

Since May 1999, Sault Ste. Marie has received more than $32.2 million in non-tax gaming revenue.

OLG makes payments to host communities under the Municipality Contribution Agreements, using a prescribed formula consistently applied across all sites in Ontario that is based on a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site or sites.

All gaming sites were opened throughout the third quarter with rigorous public health and workplace safety measures. Despite capacity restrictions being lifted on Oct. 25, the continued spread of COVID-19 had an impact on gaming revenues.

“As a host city of an OLG Casino, our Municipality Contribution Agreement with the province of Ontario provides Sault Ste. Marie with significant financial proceeds that support vital services in our community,” said Ross Romano MPP for Sault Ste. Marie. “The employment created in our community is a tremendous benefit as well.”

As a result of new time-limited provincial health measures, gaming sites were temporarily closed to the public on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at 12:01 a.m.  This closure is expected to remain in effect until at least Jan. 26, 2022.  The health and safety of customers, employees and host gaming communities remains a priority for OLG and its service providers.

Life to date, host communities have received almost $1.8 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
