Off-duty officer charged with assault

ELLIOT LAKE - Following an investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Sudbury OPP Crime Unit, an off duty provincial constable has been charged in relation to a domestic violence complaint which occurred on Dec. 21, 2017, in the City of Elliot lake, Ont.

As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old male was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault - spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC

The officer is a 19-year member with the OPP and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan 2, 2018. The officer has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario.
