The following winter storm advisories have been issued tonight by Environment Canada for Sault Ste. Marie and points east and northeast.

Earlier warnings have now ended in Elliot Lake - Ranger Lake - Blind River - Thessalon - Espanola - Killarney - Manitoulin Island

*********************** Winter storm warnings issued for Sault Ste. Marie - St. Joseph Island - Searchmont - Montreal River Harbour - Batchawana Bay - Chapleau - Gogama and in the Greater Sudbury and North Bay West Nipissing areas.

Similar warnings remain in effect for communities in the Kirkland Lake, New Liskeard, Temagami, Timmins, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Hearst, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Attawapiskat areas.

A Major winter storm continues to pound northeastern Ontario.

This is a warning that dangerous winter weather conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions.

Monitor weather conditions. Listen for updated statements.

The intense storm has moved into southwestern Québec and is drifting slowly northwards as forecast.

Heavy snow and wind continues to affect much of northeastern and parts of central Ontario.

However, conditions will gradually improve from southwest to northeast tonight into Monday.

In the mean time near blizzard conditions with bitterly cold winds and poor visibilities in heavy blowing and drifting snow will persist over many areas into the overnight period.

This is a serious storm which is having a significant impact on northeastern Ontario.
