After 43 years on the Sault Ste. Marie waterfront, M. S. Norgoma is being evicted.

Sault Ste. Marie City Council has voted tonight to end the museum ship’s berthing rights at Roberta Bondar Marina effective Aug. 31.

The city will now work with the St. Mary’s River Marine Heritage Centre to arrange to have the historic former package freighter moved out.

Ward 2 Councillor Sandra Hollingsworth fought the decision, remarking that the Sault’s downtown is more of an eyesore than the Norgoma.

”If we let the Norgoma go, we’re just demonstrating that we’re micro-thinkers,” Hollingsworth said.

Further SooToday coverage will follow.
